Mission of the Church

To grow in love of God and neighbor

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27).

This is Jesus’s core teaching and the heart of what it means to be a Christian.

Our Core Values

Authentic Worship

“I give you thanks, O God, with my whole heart.” Psalm 138:1

Everything we do in worship (prayer, music, preaching and witness) should reflect who we are, how we understand Christian faith today and how God is calling us into the future.

Surprising Hospitality

“The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?” John 4:9

We share God’s love like Jesus did by extending a generous welcome that goes a little beyond what might be expected.

Open-Minded Faith

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God.” Romans 12:2

We don’t have all the answers and affirm our restlessness as a place where God is at work in us. We honor our histories and pass our faith on to the next generation. Through faith practices we seek to learn, transforming our mind, heart, and lives.

Prophetic Witness for Justice

“What does God require of you? To do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.” Micah 6:8

Aware of our own privilege, we stand for love and justice following Jesus’ example through humble service, passionate advocacy, and participation in larger movements for social and systemic change. We show up, ready to serve.

Connecting Spirit

“That they may all be one.” John 17:21

We honor the unity and diversity within our community and beyond it by seeking opportunities to connect across all lines of difference, encouraging open and honest communication and practicing inclusive decision-making and transparency.

Compassionate Community

“As God’s people, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.” Colossians 3:12

Whether it is a gluten-free casserole when you’ve just had a baby, a prayer shawl when you are in the hospital, or just a place to celebrate life’s many passages, we embody God’s love and mercy through ministries of prayer, presence, and active support for one another.

Sustainable Stewardship

“Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.” 1 Peter 4:10

We joyously and with gratitude give our time, talent, trust and treasure (money) so as to magnify God’s work in the world. We integrate the active care of God’s creation into our spiritual life and social justice work, and we advocate for protection of the natural systems upon which all earthly life depends.
