By Rev. Cynthia Riggin

“Consistent relationships with adults who care,” she responded. I was interviewing a local middle school principal as part of our MPUC Creating Our Future campaign and asked how we, as a church, can make a positive difference in this community. Her students need “consistent relationships with adults who care.” After a few moments of silence, we both laughed and said simultaneously, “We need that too.” Generative, abiding relationships grounded in deep care. Being fully present, one to another.  In this Advent season, we are invited to share the Gift of Being Present. Rooted in the reality we encounter in scripture, “the Holy Living One is with you.” Like a shepherd who never leaves the flock, we are held close. Held and loved by our God, who is present, always, let us lavishly embody the gift of presence for our beloveds, for our communities, and for those who need it most.
