An Update on Faithful Hospitality

Update on Faithful Hospitality Overnight

Hosting of Immigrants

The immigrant families we hosted moved on to the next church with our blessing. Volunteers expressed that hosting was satisfying and eye-opening to the difficult journeys these families have had. Volunteers unanimously recommended continuing hosting, and the Session agreed that we will say yes next time we are asked by Interfaith Action. As a mission and social justice project, it provides people a short-term, meaningful commitment with vivid exposure to the plight of immigrants. In March and April, we covered 56 nights, two people each night, for a total of 112 volunteer shifts. We involved 40 congregation members - several volunteered more than once. Community volunteers bolstered our numbers, including 10 friends and neighbors, 9 Mac College students who filled 22 slots, one Mac staff person who came 4 times, and 7 Interfaith Action volunteers. It's heart rending to witness the great needs of the immigrants we host! By participating in Faithful Hospitality, we are doing justice and showing mercy and loving kindness by providing overnight shelter and compassionate hospitality. If you have questions, please contact Margo Dickinson or Marijo Hickok.

Faithful Hospitality Awarded

the 2024 Community Hero Award

Interfaith Action shared the good news that the churches that participated in the Faithful Hospitality program have been awarded the 2024 Community Hero Award from the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Churches provided overnight shelter to asylum seekers, and Faithful Hospitality staff hosted the day program including workforce development programs, family services, and enrollment in school and language classes. The program especially thanks the churches listed below for serving as the earliest hosts for our new neighbors!
