The Strategic Plan is Launched!
Session members met at a retreat on March 16 to begin the task of implementing the Strategic Plan. There was a lot of enthusiasm to finally dig in and start bringing the new MPUC vision to life! The first activities in the plan that we are implementing are the hosting of two Summits.
The first Summit was held last Sunday and focused on the proposed “Center for Community Action” (the placeholder name). Over 55 church members spent two hours generating ideas for the Center, including who we want to engage in expanding our social justice work, what the early focus of the Center will be and how we can create opportunities for non-church individuals to join us in our work. The next steps will be to create a Leadership Team that will take the input from the Summit and flesh out the framework for the Center.
A second Summit, focusing on Worship and Faith Formation, will be held on Sunday, May 4.
A third Summit will focus on growing the Connection and Care culture that is already a key element of MPUC’s church life. The date for that Summit has not been set.
Session also approved a charge to create a Congregational Presentation Team. This Team will identify potential congregations that might merge with MPUC or create partnerships that will allow us to share staff (for example, youth program staff or a pastoral minister). The Team will develop a presentation that will showcase the values and rich programs and offerings of MPUC. They will begin their work in May.
The first effort to “right size” our committee structure has begun! The Finance Committee and the Operations Committee merged and began working together in April. This merger was a natural collaboration of two groups that often interact.
Session will continue to focus its work each month on moving the Strategic Plan forward and we will report to the congregation regularly. If you have questions or thoughts to share, or are interested in joining any of these ongoing activities, contact a Session member!
